Sunday Morning Sketch

The dogs refused to cooperate with me this morning when I tried to draw them. They kept changing positions too quickly and were restless. I finally painted a bureau chest of drawers with my Schmincke paint set. I have been using these paints lately to see how I like them.
I bought a little set in Florence because I saw many of the Italian artists painting with Schmincke which is a brand of paint made in Germany. Today the paint seems good for 3 washes or less on my sketchbook paper. More layers of washes seemed to get grainy and pull up pieces of the paper. Oh well, this is why I am trying to paint quickly and often so I can improve my skill and learn how my materials work. It's definately more fun to make a successful painting, but I have to learn to tolerate painting exercises that are so so in order to improve
