What If You Painted With A What If Attitude?

I've been thinking a lot lately about why I paint the way I do. One reason is, that I've learned some things like reliable paint mixing recipes and blob and dot foliage that work well enough. Or mixing burnt sienna with ultramarine blue to get dark blues and browns, this is my absolute, most trusted painting mixture.
I've decided that I want to put the FUN in painting fundamentals and you can't do that if you are always looking for a successful outcome from your painting time. So I've decided to say things to myself, like,
WHAT IF........what if I used burnt umber mixed with red instead of my usual mixture. What if I paint the bricks in shades of browns and grays and purples and reds?  What if I don't paint the brown door brown? I am on a rather slippery slope with this new method because I am not in complete control, but the painting is interesting  and  I am learning a lot, so I am going to continue with my what ifs.
What if you tried this too?

I love your attitude about it. Mine is always worried about the outcome not the process. I hope to get to that point some day. Thanks for the reminder. :)

Thanks for the comment Kimberly. You might want to splatter some paint on your paper before getting started painting. Then the paper won't feel so precious and you might not be so worried about the finished product.
