Tuscan Garden and Good News

Here is a new watercolor of a garden I visited in Tuscany last year. I had painted this garden once before and wasn't so happy with the results. I tried again this week and like this version better. I stumbled on this garden in a hotel courtyard in Cortona. I am always impressed the care they take of their flowers and gardens in Tuscany. I resolve to come home and plant a flower box, but then I get busy painting and you know the rest....the good news is I have enough students enrolled in my workshop and will be going to Tuscany again this April. There is still room for more students if you would like to go too.

Pie Day

This is my first finished midwest foodscape. Guess what I just discovered National Pie Day is next week. Is that a coincidence or what?

Just messing around....

I have been putting together a workbook on watercolor techniques and wanted to show how to compose a composition with different elements. As I was drawing the picture, the dog just jumped in the basket when I wasn't looking. Sometimes that happens.

Can I Call This a Midwestern Landscape?

I have been working on some studies for a larger painting of a refrigerated pie case I saw in a restaurant in Illinois. This is one of the studies. After studying it for a while I decided it has kind of a landscape quality to it. What do you think?

New Year's Resolution to Paint Less Time (but more often)

Please remind me as the year progresses that I want to actually paint less time, but more often. I am beginning to suspect that painting is like exercise, if you practice on a regular basis, it is easier then starting anew again and again. Those of you that know me or have taken classes from, probably can see that I lose track of time. Forgive me if I've arrived late to a class you took from me. However, since now I am going to paint less, but more often, I won't be painting up until it is five minutes before I need to leave to teach and I am still in my pajamas. As a back up plan, my new years resolution #5 is to be on time. Resolution #1 is to listen more, what did you say? What are your new years resolutions? This painting is from a photo I took of a garden on an island in Tuscany.
