Painting Islands and Water for Greece Trip

In between shuttling my daughter to various locations and activities I have been painting from photographs my tour manager took of Santorini, Greece where my painting workshop will take place in June 08. I am going to be prepared when I get there and want to paint the pristine blue water. I will know what color to whip out of my trusty travel paintbox, it might be Holbein's marine blue, with some ultramarine blue and sometimes thalo blue. I am also looking for the perfect travel wardrobe so I don't look like I just rolled out of bed and down the hill to the water's edge.

Simply Simplified Subject Matter

I"ve found myself attracted to simpler subject matter lately. Here's my first finished painting done with simpler subject matter. What do you think?

Woman walking Past Doorway

Completed this painting the other day. I used two photos I took in the small hill town of Lucignano as reference. I was trying to capture the textures of the old building, the posture and style of the woman and the feeling of receding in the door way.

If anyone has any interest in purchasing a painting you see on my blog, please contact me. I've decided to not deal with trying to sell my paintings on e-bay right now.

I was comissioned to paint this garden. Sometimes a painting comes together and I am pleased with it. I am happy with the way this painting turned out. I actually just realized that the 4 paintings(that I didn't like) previous to this one, really helped me develop the skills to make this painting a success. How about that?

Memories of Rainy Tuscany

When we were in Italy this May, my class and I had to paint indoors for a few afternoons because it was raining. The monastery we stayed in told us we could use the 5th floor classroom. We entered the room through a creaking door, not knowing what we were going to find. We discovered a huge, open space with tables placed in front of the windows. Through the open windows we had a fantastic panoramic view of the Tuscan countryside. I did this painting as a quick demo to show my students how to mix colors to paint our view. I finished painting it later that night after an Italian dinner, when I was too full to sleep. I want to try painting this subject about ten more times (probably, 100 times would be better) until I get it to look the way I want it to. Laura, one of the nice students who went to Tuscany with me asked me to post this painting and I am glad she did, since I am glad to have a reminder of those rainy Tuscan days when it is hot in outside.

Finding Time to Paint for this Blog Post

Wow, the pressure's on now that I have a blog. Started a sketch last night but won't have it turned into a complete painting for a day or two. Should I cook dinner for my family, walk the dog, clean the bathroom or paint? Those of you that know me, can guess the answer.

If you posted a comment on my blog and I haven't answered you, please excuse me but I didn't realize you could reply on blogs. As soon as my daughter is free to show me how to reply I will be answering.
